What have we been up to?

Wow!  With two weeks of kindergarten complete, we have been one busy bunch!  I am so very proud of how far our class has come.   We have learned the classroom rules and routines, are creating a classroom community of friends and dived into our language arts and math curriculum.  Here is what we are working on:

  • Language Arts:  We have learned what a character is, how to make predictions while we read, visualized illustrations before writing,  and leaned what an author and illustrator does.  We began "Kidwriting" in our journals, learning that we sound out words slowly and write the sounds we hear, drawing a magic line if we are unsure of the sound.    We also are practicing how to "read-to-self" during Daily 5.
  • Math:  In our Singapore math curriculum we began our first unit on "exactly the same" vs. "similar".   Just because 2 objects may look "exactly the same", you have to look closely to see if they are just similar.  We worked with a partner to determine if our wild animals were exactly the same before completing pages in our math workbook.
